Free-diving
in Sodwana Bay (northern KwaZulu-Natal) is not to be missed.
Sodwana is the sourght-after diving destination in South
Africa and is one of the few places in the world where
the dive-sites are reached through the breaking waves.
The average yearly visibility is 12m, but it can be as
much as 40m. Due to KwaZulu-Natal's balmy climate, diving
is all year round, with a maximum water temperature of
29oC in the summer, and a minimum of 20oC.

Like free-diving, a popular activity in South Africa is
Scuba diving. The
un-spoilt and unpolluted waters will provide you with
sights unseen and are definitely worthwhile. Our reefs
and sea-life bring visitors back to our shores time and
time again. KwaZulu-Natal's north coast is known as the
Dolphin Coast - with good reason. These delightful and
playful creatures are frequently spotted, as well as turtles,
moray eels, whale sharks, ragged-toothed and other sharks.
Something a bit different is wreck-diving.
Aliwal Shoal in KwaZulu-Natal has 2 wrecks - The Nebo,
which sank on its maiden voyage in 1884 and rests at 25
meters (82ft), and The Produce (1974), a 2 000 ton bulk
tanker at 30 meters (100ft). Its rusted framework has
formed an established reef.
Due to the fact that South Africa is
one of the most notable regions in the world for Great
White Sharks, it has become a premier destination for
shark-watching. An activity that is one the increase is
Cage diving. Great
White Cage diving is strictly controlled and monitored
by experienced professionals. Spend a day in "Shark Alley"
and view these awesome creatures either from a cage or
from the boat.
