The Zululand Birding Route is a network of birding routes in Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal. With almost 600 species recorded in KwaZulu-Natal, you are likely to see upwards of 150 species on a good day. Wakkerstroom and Ndumo (with approximately 400 recorded species) are excellent birding spots.

The West Coast National Park is a popular birding destination, as well as the areas of Kommetjie and the Kalahari. Owing to the fact that the area of The Kruger National Park is home to a variety of habitats (from riverine forest and grassland to indigenous evergreen montane forest and mixed Acacia woodland), it attracts a wide array of birdlife. Depending on where you go, you may spot the Wattle-Eyed Flycatcher, African Finfoot, or Lemon-Breasted Canary. Less common are Pel's Fishing Owl, Yellowbilled Oxpecker, Whitebacked Night Heron, and Narina Trogon. Uncommon residents (but still occasionally seen) include the Mangrove Kingfisher, Angola Pitta and Mottled Spinetails. The area has 12 species of owls, 13 of eagle, as well as a multitude of the smaller raptor species. The remote Soutpansberg is home to many sought-after birds, including the Bluespotted Dove, Pinkthroated Twinspot, and Cinnamon Dove. In the dry woodland areas you will find the Kori Bustard, Crimsonbreasted Boubou, Kalahari Robins and Whydahs.
